A trend Israel has largely overlooked
Every year, young men and women raised in ultra-Orthodox communities in Israel choose to enlist in general IDF units. It is not required of them. Often it is not supported by their own families or communities. They do it anyway, and in growing numbers.
In 2025, 1,350 graduates of ultra-Orthodox education enlisted in general IDF units, matching or exceeding the number who joined Haredi-designated tracks. This is not a policy outcome. It is a grassroots, organic trend that Israel has largely overlooked. Mityatzvim El HaDegel was founded a year after the October 7th attacks to make sure this trend succeeds rather than stalls.
